It’s hard to make a difference in a world not meant for you
When you’re ignored, not represented, when your space is only rented
You fight for visibility, but end up vilified
And every time you stand your ground they find a way to bring you down

We stop and stare, but do we ever truly care?

I’ve struggled and strove for the perfect approach
Lost all hope, and still bespoke
I’ve made mistakes in many a case
Missed the mark, still fought my cause
My mind was wrought until it wasted away
Bare bottomed bottles scattered the space
I’ve drowned in the river of murky mistakes
Couldn’t be saved slinging proverbial phrase
Spluttered and choked until my throat closed its gates

Self pity is a taste I’ve sought to savour
Now I rinse out my mouth and spit without waver
We’ve all had our share of our own misbehaviour

We stop and stare, but do we ever truly care?

What’re you gonna do? ‘Cause this story isn’t new
It’s just another chance to feign our shock
When we can’t be bothered to do more than talk
What’re you gonna do when they set their sights on you?
When every day we walk past living proof
That claims of progress are far from true?
When are we going to change and act like victims aren’t on stage?
How many lives should we see wasted before we confront our own hatred?
